Personalized products

Individually formulated dietary supplements and cosmetics to complement your consultations – based on a questionnaire, blood test results or analyses.

79%of physicians recommend dietary supplements

68%of Americans take dietary supplements

Does that make sense?
Ideally on a personalized basis – and even more targeted with genetics.*

Without a genetic basis, statistically one can assume the following for 20 supplements: one does harm, two have no effect and the rest are incorrectly dosed. A standard product knows neither the iron metabolism nor the folic acid activation of the person taking it.

Personalization turns this around: what the body cannot utilize is replaced. What it absorbs in excess is left out. What it really needs is dosed – in the milligram range, adapted to age, lifestyle and analysis results.

Three examples – out of more than 50 genetic factors that go into the formulation

  • NQO1 variant
Q10 cannot be activated. Instead of Q10, the person receives higher doses of vitamins C and E and alpha-lipoic acid.

  • HFE variant
The body absorbs too much iron. Iron does not belong in this formulation – a standard product would contain it.

  • MTHFR variant
Folic acid is poorly activated. The formulation contains the active form of folate directly.

ProMedicDNA: physician-ordered genetic analyses

Genetic information for medical decisions. Medical genetic analyses are generally ordered and supervised by a physician. The specific requirements vary by country and type of test. The report goes to the ordering physician; ProGenom does not make a diagnosis.

60%Medications work as expected in only 60% of cases – the rest: side effects or no effect

up to 58,000drug-related deaths per year in Germany have been described in scientific studies

500,000hospital admissions per year in Germany due to adverse drug reactions

Adverse drug reactions are the sixth most common cause of death in industrialized countries.

The reason often lies in the genes: whether a drug is metabolized quickly or slowly, is activated at all, or is already toxic at a standard dose is determined by the individual enzyme profile – for example CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9 or VKORC1. Without this information, every prescription is trial and error.

The Pharmaco Sensor provides this information once, for a lifetime: around 2,000 medications assessed, more than 45 medications with specific dosing guidance based on the guidelines of pharmacogenetic professional societies. For physicians and pharmacies, it is the tool with the most immediate benefit – and every medical analysis already includes the pharmacogenetic assessment of the medications relevant to it.

Frequently asked questions about genetic analysis

A genetic analysis examines selected gene variants in the hereditary information (DNA) that are associated with certain characteristics – for example nutrient metabolism, skin aging or drug metabolism. At ProGenom, a saliva sample is all that is needed. Non-medical genetic analyses cover areas such as nutrition, exercise, skin and lifestyle and are not intended to diagnose diseases. Medical genetic analyses are generally ordered and supervised by a physician. The specific requirements vary by country and type of test. A genetic result describes a predisposition, not a diagnosis.

That depends on the type of analysis. Non-medical analyses such as the Nutrition, Weight or Beauty Sensor are available through professional partners in the health sector; they are not intended to diagnose diseases. Medical genetic analyses are generally ordered and supervised by a physician. The specific requirements vary by country and type of test. The report of a medical genetic analysis goes to the ordering physician; ProGenom does not make a diagnosis.

Medical genetic analyses at a glanceNon-medical analyses at a glance

For all genetic analyses, a saliva sample with the Saliva Kit is sufficient; the processing time is 1–2 weeks. Non-genetic lab tests in the ProVitalDNA line take 3–4 weeks. The Micronutrient Sensor and the Microbiome Sensor use a blood & urine sample (dried); the Allergy Sensor and the Food Intolerance Sensor use a blood sample (capillary blood).

Genetic data are particularly sensitive. Samples are processed under a code instead of a name. For medical genetic analyses, they are destroyed after the analysis unless explicit consent has been given for use in research; genetic and personal data are stored separately. Consent can be withdrawn, and there is a right not to know the result.

Laboratory and data protection

Interpreting the results

Statements marked with an asterisk are derived recommendations – logical conclusions.

Science: Several million scientific publications have already examined the effects of genes on the human body. That genes can influence, for example, body weight, the effectiveness of certain strategies, the ability to process certain nutrients or characteristics of the skin is supported for each gene analyzed in its respective area by several scientific studies – the genetic characteristics determined by our analyses are therefore based on scientifically established relationships.

Recommendations: The adjustments derived from these findings – to micronutrient dosing, cosmetic formulation and nutrition or lifestyle recommendations – have not yet been confirmed by randomized, placebo-controlled studies for every genetic effect. They should therefore be understood as logical conclusions – not as scientifically proven results – and do not replace medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Figures on the numbers of genes and medications reflect the scope of each analysis at the time of writing and may be updated as science advances.
