Cardiovascular Diseases Are the Leading Cause of Death in Germany
Cardiovascular diseases, or heart and vascular diseases, affect our heart and blood vessels. Common pathological causes include the deposition of fats and lipids in the arteries, known as atherosclerosis, and the formation of blood clots. Cardiovascular diseases include coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. Depending on the type of disease, they can permanently affect the body and, if left untreated, may lead to death.
A number of cardiovascular risk factors contribute to the development of such diseases. These include age, obesity, high blood pressure (arterial hypertension), high cholesterol levels (hypercholesterolemia), diabetes, excessive alcohol consumption, and smoking. In Germany, about one in two deaths is due to such a condition, with older people being particularly affected.
Genetic Predisposition for Heart and Vascular Diseases
In addition to the above-mentioned risk factors, which are largely related to an unhealthy lifestyle, our genetic predisposition also plays a significant role in the development of cardiovascular diseases.
Some gene mutations can significantly increase the risk of heart and vascular diseases. A test for the relevant genes can detect potential risks early and initiate preventive measures in a timely manner. For example, we can determine whether Omega-3 is beneficial or even counterproductive for your cholesterol levels.
How Does Our Cardiovascular Sensor Work?
With our Cardiovascular Sensor, our laboratory examines the submitted saliva sample for more than 18 different gene variants associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases.
We also assess the impact of the genetic profile on the effectiveness of 117 relevant medications.
We summarize the analysis results in a clear report that also provides individual recommendations for effective prevention, such as suitable micronutrient intake and dietary adjustments.
In this way, our Cardiovascular Sensor can significantly contribute to the early detection of heart and vascular diseases and help reduce potential risks with an adapted lifestyle or optimize treatment for an existing condition through medication.
